Author’s Guidelines
Focus and Scope:
Thespian Magazine invites research articles for the ‘Article’ section that engages with the interdisciplinary study of humanities. Besides the ‘Article’ section, we welcome innovative pieces like ‘Creative Writing’ (Poetry/Essay/Short Story/Travelogue, etc.) and ‘Review’ (Book/Film/Theatre and Other Performing Arts/Exhibition, etc.). We also welcome translations in English or Bengali from any other language for the ‘Translation’ section.
We accept submissions in English and Bengali for all the abovementioned sections.
Principles of Submission:
Manuscripts submitted to THESPIAN MAGAZINE should meet the highest standards of publication ethics:
1. Manuscripts that have not been submitted or published elsewhere, even in part, should only be accepted; the published articles in other languages translated into English or Bengali have previously been presented at conferences.
2. Manuscripts must be original and not reuse text from another source without appropriate citation. THESPIAN MAGAZINE has a zero-tolerance plagiarism policy (including self-plagiarism). We check the issue using a plagiarism prevention tool.
3. Copyrights for articles/writings are retained by the authors, with first publication rights granted to the journal. Authors can reuse, republish, archive, and distribute their articles/writings after publication.
4. All the authors should agree on the publications.

General Requirements of Submission for ARTICLE Section:
1. Authors are asked to strictly follow the MLA Handbook 9th Edition for documentation. If the article fails to conform to the slated style, we cannot review it.
2. The manuscript should be written in English or Bengali (‘Times New Roman’ (12) for English and ‘Kalpurush’ (10) for Bengali in using Avro Sofware only).
3. THESPIAN MAGAZINE only accepts Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) files for manuscript.
4. There is no particular requirement for the length of the manuscripts, but 3000 to 5000 words are better.
5. The manuscript should be written as a complete structure, which is as follows:
a) Title Page, which includes:
i) Title
ii) Author’s name, institutional/organizational affiliation, etc.
b) Abstract (including separate citation lists (If required)) - not more than 300 words
c) Keywords (05)
d) Body
i) Tables, Figures & Images (insert into the body in proper place) [If you have any of these inside your paper, please send a separate PDF file with the same email]
e) End Note/s (If required)
f) Works Cited
6. Please send us two Word files for your manuscript (.doc/.docx)
a) including your name and designation with all the above details.
b) excluding your name and designation with all the above details, and if you cite yourself anywhere in your paper, please remove your name from the 'in-text' citation and 'Works Cited' list.
7. A self-declaration (with your original scanned signature) in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) or PDF file should be sent to prove the originality of their work. Please send it with the same email as a separate .doc/.docx/pdf attachment. For an example of self-declaration, see Template.
8. A recent colour passport-size photograph (.jpg/.jpeg) of the author should be sent. Please send it with the same email as a separate .jpg/.jpeg attachment.
9. A bio-note of the Author (including the email ID, ORCID ID (Sign up with www.orcid.org) and WhatsApp no.) in English mentioning their proper academic/ professional designation and their institutional/ organizational affiliation should be sent in two sections (mentioned below) in a Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) file only. Please send it with the same email as a separate .doc/.docx attachment.
a) In the first section of the bio-note (around 70 to 80 words), the Author should properly mention their present academic/ professional designation, institutional/ organizational affiliation, and research interest/area.
b) In the second section of the bio-note, the Author will give their details in around 250 words.
N.B.: Only the email ID will be visible in their profile section.
General Requirements of Submission for Other sections [‘Creative Writing’ (Poetry/Essay/Short Story), ‘Review’ (Book/Film/Theatre and Other Performing Arts/Exhibition and etc.) and ‘Translation’ etc.]:

4. Those who wish to contribute to the ‘Translation’ section must consult the Editor about the text before translating. However, we do not need prior information in translating Bengali to English or English to Bengali.

Paper Selection and Publication for Process of the Article & Other sections [‘Creative Writing’ (Poetry/Essay/Short Story), ‘Review’ (Book/Film/Theatre and Other Performing Arts/Exhibition and etc.) and ‘Translation’ etc.]:
1. Upon receipt of a submission, the editorial team sends an e-mail of confirmation to the author. If you fail to receive this confirmation within a month, your submission e-mail may have been missed.
2. Thespian has not taken any Publication Fee or Article Processing Charge (APC) to date (2013-2024). From the next issue (Bengali New Year Edition'25 (April-May 2025)), Thespian will charge APC USD 30. If the Editorial team of Thespian Magazine selects your paper for review, the team will send you the payment method to pay the APC USD 30***. Remember, payment of APC does not confirm your paper's publication. The publication only depends on the peer-review process.
3. This fee covers all processing costs of publication: web hosting and administration, editorial and review activities, formatting, indexing, marketing and preservation of contents, DOI registration, etc.
4. We use a double-blind peer review system. Sometimes, the review process of such a paper may take some time. So, be patient until you are notified further.
5. Notification of the review will be intimated through your designated e-mail only.
6. If the submission is accepted after review, the authors must revise (if the reviewer suggests any revision) accordingly to continue the publication process.
7. After revision, the paper will go to the editor's desk for the final review. If the editor accepts the paper, it will go for publication; otherwise, it will be rejected or sent for further revisions.
8. The journal's PDF version is available for free download on the journal's webpage. Later, you can check, download and share your paper anytime in our Previous Issues section.

Reviewer's Guidelines
Reviewer Instruction:
At least two experts review manuscripts submitted to THESPIAN MAGAZINE. Reviewers are asked to evaluate the quality of the manuscript and to provide a recommendation to the editor on whether a manuscript can be accepted, requires revisions or should be rejected. As an editorial member of Thespian Magazine, the reviewer plays an essential role in the peer-review process. Whether a submitted paper is published chiefly depends on the reviewer's evaluation. Therefore, we sincerely welcome specialists and scholars to join us. Apply
Responsibilities of Reviewers:
1. Accept or decline invitations quickly, based on the manuscript title and abstract.
2. Reviewers should be able to finish the review task and include feedback in the appointed time.
3. Suggestions for alternative reviewers are solicited if an invitation is declined.
Requirements of Reviewers:
1. Reviewers should possess a doctoral degree in the relevant field of the journal. Please visit the About Us section.
2. Hold a teaching or Post-doctoral research position at a university or academic institution.
3. All the submitted papers are written in English or Bengali, so reviewers must be fluent in English or Bengali.
How do you become a Reviewer of our Journal?
This is an entirely voluntary job without any remuneration as such. If you are interested in being a reviewer of Thespian Magazine and meeting all the requirements mentioned above, please download and fill out the application form and then contact the journal's 'Managing Editor' to submit your application. The editorial board will assess your expertise based on your application form and give you feedback as soon as possible. Notably, we will recognize our most extraordinary reviewer as the ‘Editor’ for upcoming Issues.

Notes:
For the reviewers:
1. We give the reviewer a discount for their future contribution to publication in Thespian Magazine.
2. The reviewer certificate may be helpful in future.
3. We wish to increase enthusiasm in review work among scholars.
Implementation Detail of Discount:
Add an appendix in the review form, which contains the details of the specific review requirements. The reviewer needs to make a detailed evaluation and recommendations regarding the requirements. Editorial board qualification will be cancelled if the review form does not meet the requirements multiple times.
We provide a 50% discount on his/her paper in our journal. The discount is not transferable, i.e., it can only be used by the owner, and it is best to inform the journal's 'Managing Editor'.

The Thespian Magazine is inviting submissions (Academic Articles, Creative Writings, Reviews, Translations, etc.) in the area of Art and Humanities for its upcoming general issues Nababarsha Sankhya (Bengali New Year Edition 2025) and Sharat Sankhya (Autumn Edition 2025) around the year.

Thespian will celebrate the Birth Centenary of Badal Sircar, Tripti Mitra and the Veteran Film Director Ritwik Ghatak this year.
Along with these thespians of Bengali Theatre and Film, Thespian will also celebrate the Birth Centenary of the famous playwright of Hindi literature, Mohan Rakesh, whose plays played a significant role in reviving Hindi Theatre in the Post-independent India and the veteran Theatre Director and founder of the National School of Drama (NSD), Ebrahim Alkazi.
Apart from the general issue of Thespian Magazine, we are inviting scholars to contribute their Research Work on our special issues on their contributions to the Theatres of India.
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. THESPIAN MAGAZINE has a zero-tolerance plagiarism policy (including self-plagiarism). If any submission is found to be plagiarized after publication, necessary step will be taken against the author.
