    Shama Fathima

Shama Fathima is a PhD candidate in Visual Studies from the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her current research focuses on the visual culture of built forms of contemporary Calicut. And her broader research interest lies at the intersection of humanities and architecture, particularly the ways in which built forms and human beings affect each other.

She is a trained architect and planner and has practiced in Ahmedabad, Auroville and Calicut. She has worked on projects of various scales, ranging from interior design to urban planning. And her research is often informed by practice. Through her research, she addresses the questions encountered through practice and uses every available resource that helps her in articulating her thoughts which tend to transcend the disciplinary boundaries of architecture, visual studies, urban studies, sociology and philosophy.
