    Abstract

The indirect effect of Europe on the Fine Arts institutions that were established in Bangladesh or the entire Indian subcontinent was too immense to be denied. Though the ancient art works of the world and the very first artists were in India, criticism of art was not initiated by Indians. Whatever might be the role of the Europeans in establishing institutions of Fine Arts during the European colonial period, it is they who made the beginning. Following this, many other institutions emerged in the entire Indian subcontinent. Though institutions were not established directly by Europeans in Bangladesh, the largest delta in the world, here is the direct influence of Calcutta Art College which indicates an attempt to follow Europeans. On the other hand all other institutions in Bangladesh have been established under the direct influence Dhaka Art College. This article seeks to discuss briefly how academic Fine Arts and style have emerged in Bangladesh.
